Edward Gibbon

(27 April 1737, Wandsworth, United Kingdom - 16 January 1794, London, United Kingdom) English historian and Member of the British Parliament. His most famous work is "History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire", published in six volumes between 1776 and 1788. His works are renowned for their quality, irony of prose, use of primary sources and open denigration of institutional religion.
