Reflecții și Maxime vol. I.

Selfishness is not living the way you want to live, but asking others to live the way you want to live, and unselfishness is giving peace to the lives of others, not interfering. Egoism always tends to create around itself an absolute typological uniformity...

Selflessness recognizes infinite typological variety as a delightful thing, accepts it, approves of it, rejoices in its existence is not selfish if you think for yourself. The man who does not think for himself does not think at all. It is terribly selfish, however, to force your neighbor to think the same as you, to have the same opinions.

It is absolutely certain that if one lives only for himself, he pays a terrible price for it... in remorse, in suffering, in the consciousness of his own degradation.

Philanthropy is a barrier to social justice. Philanthropy is like an infected rain falling from the sky; it poisons both the giver and the receiver.

The ambitious wanders wildly after something which he thinks will give him immense happiness, but his great happiness lies in the fact that he has much to do; and if he feels wretched by some disappointment, he still has the happiness of being wretched. Because he thinks he has a needle for the shell of misfortune, and the real cure is that he has faith that he has this needle.

The brilliance of an action derives from the degree of difficulty one has to face, in an activity or in a creative act...

If there weren't the difficulties of knowledge, of searches, the mobilization of all personal creative capacities and inclinations to face, I think there wouldn't even be celebrity, in the sense of... absolute success, measured by its value to humanity...

The duration of renown depends on the vastness of the acts' implication for the fate of mankind...

The nature of the appreciated creative act, the extent to which it increasingly involves humanity, its destinies, give it durability in consciousness.

Celebrity as an act of creation cannot exist outside of human society... The act of individual creation for society, the contribution to the real values of human civilization are the basis of fame, fame, celebrity...

Celebrity comes to constitute itself as the highest degree by which the collective accepts and rewards someone's merits, after he had them.

The nerve of success is fortitude, natural gifts, firmness, boldness, constancy, moderation, diligence and other similar qualities.

A success proves something: that at some point matches were found between the opera and a group.

Before recognizing one's superiority, the world demands resounding successes.

Gloria, sad commodity! It costs a lot and doesn't last.

Any failure, no matter how insignificant, is a form of death.

Victory is less exciting than conquest; conquest means activity, passion; victory is immovable happiness. Conquest is vanity.

Struggle succeeds especially those who love struggle more than success.

The appreciation of the majority does not judge the merit of deeds, but their denouement, brought about by events, and they do not take into account the provisions only to the extent that they are crowned with success.

In great deeds you must think to act as is proper, and let glory follow merit.

Only he who is not afraid of defeat can win.

As an epitaph, only the name, I want it: / if clay could not crown me, / I will not ask another glory for its tribute. Only the name I want to be my monument / through him eternal, or dead forever.

The fall cannot erase / the glory of being climbed.

Each person is an individuality, a unique one if you will. Each individual, more or less integrated into a collective, likes, at least in front of him, to consider himself someone, in the sense of a prominence, even if the self-tester has coverage or not in the world of facts and realities...

Everyone aims, according to their powers or hopes, real values or dreams, to become an illustrious personality, "a great man", or more directly, a celebrity...

To become famous, you have to combine effort with application, the ability to meditate on yourself or the environment you come from, the intelligence to connect seemingly dispersed things, but which, harmonized through talent and diligence, create the unique work of achievement in the favor of man and his needs.

Famous: ...one who begins to live after being dead.

He who fights can be defeated, but only he who fights can be victorious.

He who has the strength to let himself be defeated in everyday life wins in the end.

Celebrity is implicit in the man who is susceptible to perfection and who knows that this is not enough to exist as a general humanitarian desire, but as an application of the human spirit to a domain.
